Marine grade protection, made for a house that lives on the water
Most security screens sold in South East Queensland were never designed for a house like yours. They’re specified for the suburbs: inland, sheltered, forty kilometres from the nearest whitecap. Put one of those screens on a home in Woorim or Bellara and the salt will find it inside a few seasons.
SaltWaterSeries is CommandeX’s answer to that problem, and it’s the range we recommend to most of the island. It’s built around 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh, powder coated specifically for corrosive air, in an extruded aluminium frame designed so the two metals never touch.

Why the mesh grade matters more here than anywhere else
There’s a rule of thumb the manufacturer uses to decide when SaltWaterSeries is the right call rather than a standard stainless product: within 500 metres of open coastline, or up to 2 kilometres if the property sits on an escarpment where the prevailing wind carries salt inland.
Look at that on a map of Bribie and you’ll notice something. Almost the entire island qualifies. Woorim takes the surf side directly. Bongaree, Bellara and Banksia Beach sit on the passage. Even Sandstone Point and parts of Ningi are carrying a salt load that a Caboolture home simply isn’t.
That’s the reason we don’t treat marine grade mesh as an upsell here. It’s the baseline.
The distinction is between Grade 304 and Grade 316 stainless. Both are “stainless”, and on a showroom sample they look identical. The difference is molybdenum in the 316 alloy, which is what holds up against chloride attack, exactly the kind of corrosion salt air produces. In a dry inland environment you’d never see the gap between them. Two hundred metres from the passage, you’ll see it in about four years.

What’s actually inside the screen 
316 marine grade stainless mesh
High tensile woven stainless, powder coated for corrosive conditions. The aperture is 1.57mm: fine enough to keep out midges and mozzies, open enough that you keep the breeze and the view. On a Bribie summer evening, both of those things matter.
Chemical bonded keyway fixing
No visible screws or rivets holding the mesh in. The mesh is anchored into the frame using a patented two-part wedge system paired with 3M VHB structural adhesive, the same class of bonding used in aircraft and high-rise construction.
Two things come out of that. The bond has some give to it, so an impact gets absorbed rather than transferred straight into a fixing point. And because the wedge system holds a deliberate gap between the stainless mesh and the aluminium frame, the two metals never make direct contact, which is what prevents galvanic corrosion, the failure mode that quietly destroys cheaper screens from the edges inwards.
Extruded aluminium frame
Lightweight, but reinforced with solid aluminium stakes through each corner join so it doesn’t rack or drop over time. A patented tensioning process also means large openings can be built without a mid rail through the middle of your view. Worth knowing if you’ve got a wide stacker or a picture window facing the water.
Three-point locking as standard
Not an optional extra. Every SaltWaterSeries door ships with an approved three-point lock that exceeds the requirement in AS 5039.

Finished in Interpon powder coat, with the full current Colorbond range plus woodgrain effects. If you’re matching existing window frames, gutters or a Colorbond roof, bring us the colour name and we’ll match it.

Tested, not just claimed
Every security screen on the market says it’s strong. The difference is whether it’s been put in front of a NATA accredited lab. SaltWaterSeries has. Testing is carried out by AZUMA Design & Testing.
The range meets AS 5039 and passes:
- Knife shear: resistance to a blade drawn through the mesh
- Anti-jemmy: resistance to a lever forced into the frame
- Pull test: mesh retention under sustained force
- Impact test: repeated blunt force
- Aluminium frame tests
- Cyclone screen test
- Fire rating
- Neutral salt spray to AS 2331.3.1: passed at 3,000 hours
That salt spray figure is the one to pay attention to on this island. The baseline compliance requirement is 240 hours. SaltWaterSeries was run for 3,000. That’s the number doing the real work in a coastal application, and it’s the reason we’re comfortable recommending it 200 metres from the water.
The 20-year warranty (and the bit people miss)
SaltWaterSeries carries a 20-year manufacturer’s warranty, but only if the product is registered online after installation. Leave it unregistered and you’re on the standard 12 months.
We register every screen we install on your behalf and send you the confirmation, so you’re not relying on remembering to do it yourself six weeks after we’ve packed up.
Warranty also assumes reasonable maintenance. On Bribie that means a rinse with fresh water roughly weekly if you’re near open water, fortnightly further back. We’ll walk you through it on handover. It takes about two minutes with a hose and it’s the single biggest thing you can do to reach year twenty.

CommandeX doesn’t sell direct. SaltWaterSeries is only available through authorised dealers, and we’re the one on the island.
That matters more than it sounds. A security screen is a made-to-measure product. It’s cut, built and fitted to your specific opening, and most of the failures we get called out to fix aren’t manufacturing faults at all. They’re screens that were specified wrong for the exposure, or fitted into a frame that couldn’t carry them properly.
What being an authorised dealer means for you:
- Genuine product. Real 316 mesh, real CommandeX frames and locks, with the manufacturer’s warranty intact behind it. There’s a lot of “marine grade” on the market that isn’t.
- Correct specification. We’ll look at your actual exposure (which way the house faces, how far you are from open water, whether you’re behind a windbreak) and tell you whether SaltWaterSeries is warranted or whether a standard product would do.
- Measured and installed by us. Not subcontracted out. The same people who quote it, fit it.
- Warranty registered on your behalf. We lodge the registration after installation and send you the confirmation, so you actually get the 20 years rather than the 12 month default.
- Someone local when something needs adjusting. Doors settle, catches need tweaking, kids do what kids do. We’re at Bongaree, not a call centre.

Where can I buy CommandeX security screens on Bribie Island?
From us. CommandeX doesn’t sell direct to the public. The range is only available through authorised dealers, and we’re the authorised dealer covering Bribie Island and the surrounding mainland. We quote, measure, build to your openings and install.
What’s the difference between 304 and 316 stainless security screens?
Molybdenum. Grade 316 contains it, Grade 304 doesn’t, and it’s what resists chloride attack, the specific type of corrosion salt air causes. Both are genuinely stainless and both perform well inland. Within a kilometre of open water, 316 is the one that’s still presentable in a decade.
Are stainless steel or aluminium security screens better for Bribie Island?
For a coastal home, it isn’t really a contest on the mesh. Perforated aluminium screens are lighter and cheaper, but they don’t hold up to sustained salt exposure the way marine grade stainless does. Where aluminium does belong is the frame, which is why SaltWaterSeries uses both: stainless mesh, aluminium frame, and a fixing system that deliberately keeps the two from touching.
How much do security screens cost on Bribie Island?
It depends on the size of the opening, the number of screens, and whether you’re doing doors, windows or both. A single hinged door is a different job to fitting out a whole house. We quote per opening after a measure so you get a real number rather than a range, and the quote is free either way.
Do security screens block the breeze?
Not meaningfully. The SaltWaterSeries aperture is 1.57mm, which is fine enough to stop midges and mosquitoes while still letting the passage breeze through. Most people find the airflow difference against a standard flyscreen is barely noticeable.
How often do I need to clean them?
Near open water, a fresh water rinse roughly weekly. A few kilometres back, fortnightly is fine. It’s a two minute job with a hose and it’s also a warranty condition, so it’s worth building into the routine.
